Maximize Your Epic Investment by Eliminating Communication Silos

eFax to Epic Connector

While Epic serves as the central nervous system for your digital health network, critical documents like referrals, lab results, prescriptions, and prior authorizations frequently default back to legacy fax lines.

The eFax® Connector bridges this interoperability gap. By embedding enterprise cloud-fax technology directly into your existing EMR workflows, your clinical and administrative staff can transmit critical patient data securely without ever leaving the patient chart or printing a single page.

Core Functionality Built for Enterprise Scale

Native Connection Hub Application

Developed specifically for Epic, our application resides natively within the Epic environment. This allows users to initiate secure outbound transmissions directly from active patient records, worksheets, or clinical charts without toggling applications.

Real-Time Delivery Status Tracking

Gain absolute visibility into document handoffs. The eFax® Connector routes real-time delivery notifications—including instant success confirmations or specific, actionable failure reasons—directly back into Epic for clinical tracking.

Enterprise Web Service Encryption

Ensure uncompromised data privacy. All transmissions are routed via a dedicated, secure web service utilizing end-to-end encryption to protect sensitive Protected Health Information (PHI) across institutional boundaries.

Centralized Admin Auditing

Give compliance teams total control. Administrators can view, track, monitor, and audit the entire lifecycle of all outbound and inbound fax workflows through a single, centralized eFax Corporate management portal.

High-Volume Architecture

Built for enterprise applications demanding 99.99% uptime. The infrastructure seamlessly supports multiple separate practices, granular user roles, and high-volume clinical environments without performance degradation.

How the Outbound Workflow Functions

Our eFax® Connector mirrors standard clinical document processing, minimizing the need for extensive staff retraining.

Step 1

Document Selection:

The clinical user remains entirely inside the Epic EMR and selects the specific report, lab result, or care plan to transmit.

Step 2

Virtual Print Routing:

The user simply selects the designated eFax® Connector Printer from the native print drop-down menu.

Step 3

Secure Delivery:

The eFax Corporate® Enterprise API encrypts, processes, and transmits the file to the recipient’s endpoint.

Step 4

Status Reconciliation:

Once the transmission finishes, the real-time success or failure status code automatically routes back to Epic via the native Epic Status Update API, instantly updating the patient chart.

Streamlining Complex Inbound Document Intake

To close the loop on inbound workflows, eFax Corporate® integrates seamlessly with your downstream documentation management tools.

For inbound routing, our solution utilizes either the eFax® API or the eFax Router paired with Hyland OnBase to automatically digest incoming digital faxes. When deploying the eFax Router, it securely delivers the files to a designated directory location using custom UNC paths. From there, Hyland OnBase can accept, parse, and ingest the files directly into the appropriate Epic EHR patient records—completely eliminating physical paper bins and manual indexing.

Advancing Enterprise Healthcare Interoperability

True interoperability means meeting your healthcare partners where they are. When direct EHR-to-EHR data networks are unavailable across disparate systems, the eFax® Connector serves as the universal translator. We turn unstructured fax communication into automated, highly traceable electronic workflows, establishing secure data liquidity between your health system and external clinics, pharmacies, and payers.
