As the world grows more tightly connected and barriers to international business continue to break down, the need for reliable, efficient international communications tools becomes more critical.
Oftentimes, a company will focus on establishing email and phone connectivity for international business, and overlook the fact that fax remains a mainstay business tool in many areas of the world -- particularly those without the degree of technology sophistication enjoyed in the U.S.
Sometimes, companies overlook fax because of the misperception that fax is no longer used.
But that's wrong, according to industry analyst Peter Davidson, of Davidson Consulting. "Fax has proved much stickier than anyone would have expected several years ago," says Davidson. "Businesses find it an essential tool to comply with compliance issues and use fax because their trading partners prefer them to."
The growth in online fax -- a cloud service that provides a dedicated fax number that enables faxes to be sent and/or received via email rather than a traditional fax machine -- has been explosive, and has far outpaced use of traditional fax machines for transferring documents.
Online fax, also knows as internet fax or fax to email, allows documents to be sent or received as an email attachment from a computer or mobile smartphone, meaning you don't need to be at the office sitting by the fax machine waiting for a fax to be delivered. This could come in handy if it's 1 a.m. and you are expecting an important fax from Switzerland.
As the technology continues to spread, international faxing will likely become even easier. Individuals, organizations and businesses in countries such as Germany, Portugal, Brazil and Sweden are adopting the service, which will mean that communicating with them instantly and securely via the same service will be straightforward.
Whether you want to stay in touch more easily with businesses across the globe, or you are sick of feeling tied to your fax machine while waiting for an important transmission, internet faxing could be a great solution.
